What is Comic-Con?
Comic-Con, officially known as San Diego Comic-Con International, is a major comic, pop culture and entertainment expo held annually.
The event was first held on March 21, 1970 as the Golden State Comic Book Convention as a way for fans to celebrate comic books. In the ensuing years, the event grew dramatically in popularity, spawning a number of similar conventions throughout the world.
Its exhibited genres and media also grew from just comics to science fiction and fantasy franchises and — eventually — horror, manga, anime and many other genres spanning films, TV shows, video games, novels, toys and more.
