Wheelchair tennis sensation Dylan Alcott has brought smiles to disappointed Aussie fans after John Millman crashed out of the second round of his home grand slam.

World number three Alexander Zverev needed less than two hours to demolish the crowd favourite 6-4 6-4 6-0 at the Australian Open in Melbourne on Wednesday night.  

It was up to Channel Nine courtside commentator Alcott to lighten the gloomy mood around Rod Laver Arena and didn't disappoint in his entertaining post-match interview with Zverev.

In between the friendly banter, questions ranged from where Zverev kept his Olympic gold medal and lockdowns to why he ditched his trademark tank tops.

Alcott ended the interview on a hilarious note with some words of wisdom.

'I'll give you some advice, skip leg day as it's overrated,' the wheelchair-bound Aussie champion quipped, leaving Zverev and the crowd in stitches.

Alcott make the comments after inquiring why Zverev had recently ditched his trademark sleeveless uniform.

'The last 18 months you've been wearing the tank top, you've been getting the guns out.

What happened, because I was a big fan,' he asked.

Zverev obliged by pulling up his short sleeves and hinted the tank top may return for the next grand slam.

'I've been told in in the locker room that it's too intimidating for opponents so I thought I'll stay without it for now,' he explained.

'But it's definitely not retired, it's going to come out.
Maybe at the French Open.'

The German tennis star was also asked about the whereabouts of his Olympic gold medal won in Tokyo. 

'That's actually a good question because my brother took it for a media appearance once,' Zverev replied.

'I don't know where it is for the past five months.

Hopefully he hasn't sold it on ebay berlin.'

Alcott, who has four Paralympic gold medals in wheelchair tennis and basketball claimed knew where it was.

'I've actually got five now, because I just bought it,' he joked.

The banter between the pair sparked calls from impressed viewers for Alcott to do more post-match interviews.

'Finally an interview that asks all the questions we want answers to,' one tweeted.

Alcott is vying for his eighth consecutive wheelchair quad singles at the Australian Open and will retire from the sport after the grand slam, regardless of the result.

Zverev commended the Melbourne crowd on the centre court atmosphere and hopes to win over more fans in the coming days, despite knocking Millman out of the tournament.

'I could really feel that you guys have been in lockdown for two years,' he said. 

'It was an amazing atmosphere.

Hopefully it will get even louder for the next two matches.  

'That's my mindset. Hopefully I'll get a lot of boos. Hopefully people will cheer against me.

'To be honest, I've said for the last two years since Covid started that sports needs the atmosphere, sport needs the people.
It doesn't matter if you're for me or against me. I enjoy being on the court in front of all you guys

'Spectators bring all the emotions. Sport without spectators is like sport without emotions.'

All available tickets have been sold for Thursday's night session on Rod Laver Arena, starring a blockbuster showdown between Aussie star Nick Kyrgios and world number two Daniil Medvedev.
