Mitch Marner scored his second goal of the game at 2:51 of overtime to give the Toronto Maple Leafs a 4-3 win over the visiting Carolina Hurricanes on Monday night.

Marner extended his goal-scoring streak to eight games when he beat Frederik Andersen with 5:48 remaining in the third period, then gave the Maple Leafs their sixth straight victory when he knocked in a rebound for his 16th goal of the season.

Auston Matthews also scored two goals, giving him 31 for the season, before leaving the game in the final minute of regulation time with an apparent head injury.

William Nylander took the initial stab at the puck in the crease, and was originally given credit for the goal, during a scramble around the net with Cole off for tripping.

Toronto took a 2-1 lead when Matthews scored at 19:37 on a one-timer from the slot off a pass from Reilly.

br />It was his eighth goal of the season. Stepan jammed home his seventh from the edge of the crease at 9:23 to put Carolina ahead 3-2.

But Marner pounced on a loose puck and tied the game at 14:12. Alexander Kerfoot nearly won the game for Toronto in the final seconds of the third period, but was unable to convert on a breakaway.
